The Listahanan or National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTSPR) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)  Field Office IV-MiMaRoPa has assessed 80 Indigenous People (IP) tribes that constitutes to 74, 323  poor IP households (HH) equivalent to 339, 301 poor individuals across the five provinces in MiMaRoPa region.

The province of Palawan posted the biggest percentage of poor IP with 59,245 HHs. It is followed by Romblon with 8.3 % share or 6,158 HHs. The other three provinces are: Occidental Mindoro with 6.7% or 4,991, Oriental Mindoro with 3,711 or 5% share and the last province with least number of IP group is Marinduque with 218 HHs or 0.29%.

From the total number of individuals assessed, there are 106 males for every 100 females. The conduct of IP and Informal Sector Validation last March 2012 revealed that there are 76,669 IP individuals who are working mostly in the field of agriculture.

The result of the assessment will be used to identify social protection programs that befit the needs of poor households.

As of  2013, there are 31,394 poor IP households who are now beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program. ###
