MAKATI CITY- It rained recognition during the drought on the islands of MiMaRoPa as Kalahi CIDSS MiMaRoPa snagged five out of nine awards on the recently conducted KC MCC National Gender and Development (GAD) Congress last May 1 to 3, 2016 at Asian Institute of Management Conference Center in Makati City.

With the theme “Empowering Women, Empowering Communities, seven regions (CAR, IV-MiMaRoPa, V, VI, VII, and VIII) funded by the Kalahi CIDSS Millennium Challenge Corporation project gathered in the event to celebrate the accomplishments and the lessons learned in integrating Gender and Development in Kalahi CIDSS MCC. The event also gathered the Regional GAD champions from the said regions as well as the individuals featured on the previous GAD compendiums produced by the central office (CO) of DSWD.

The event was intended to be festive and joyful according to Mr. Tomas Cabueños, the Deputy National Program Manager (DNPM) of Kalahi CIDSS MCC as he shared the KC MCC Gender Journey from 2011 to 2016. He highlighted the achievements and stories of women participation in paid labor and committee membership and leadership from the introduction of GAD in the start of the implementation of Kalahi CIDSS MCC up to the present.

The second day of the event was filled with sharing of the lessons learned in GAD integration of each region as well as reporting of the status of participation of men and women on the Key Indicators of the project namely a) Barangay Assembly participation, b) committee leadership and membership, c) and participation of women in paid labor.

The festive celebration continued on the third day as it rained recognition to the individuals and groups in Kalahi CIDSS who have shown exemplary and outstanding work in mainstreaming gender and development, majority of the awardees came from the MiMaRoPa region.

The following awards were received by Region IV-MiMaRoPa:

  1. National Barangay Gender and Development Champion- Macaria Valenzuela (BGAD of Brgy. Poctoy, Torrijos, Marinduque
  2. Municipal Gender and Development Focal Champion- Engr. Eugenia Cruzado (MGAD of Torrijos, Marinduque)
  3. Best Barangay in Gender Integration- Barangay Poctoy, Torrijos, Marinduque
  4. Best Municipality in Gender Integration- Municipality of Torrijos, Marinduque
  5. Best Regional Program Management Office Staff in Gender Integration- Chisil Batikin (Community Development Officer III)

The inspiring stories of women that were captured into a coffee table written by the Social Marketing Officers of Kalahi CIDSS was also launched the same day and were distributed to the participants as a token of appreciation. ###
