The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office MIMAROPA through the Innovations Division held a two-day Consultation Workshop Cum Action Planning for the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP) at Conference Room 1, New City Hall, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on January 22-23, 2025.

Spearheaded by the TBTP Regional Program Management Office (TBTP-RPMO), the attendees of include program partners from the Department of Education (DepEd) District  Office, and the Education Program Supervisor of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan State University, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and DSWD Social Welfare and Development Team (SWADT) of Palawan.

The planning workshop aimed to understand Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program comprehensively, clarify its objectives, and define the roles and functions of various stakeholders in its implementation. 

It also intends to build a strong coordination and collaboration among implementers by aligning its shared vision, mission, and goals of the program.

Further, refine program activities, guidelines and timelines with the partners’ inputs to ensure a tailored, effective roll out of the program in the region. 

Participants were able to formulate a detailed action plan, including resource allocation and strategies for anticipated challenges and define key indicators and methods for tracking progress and assessing program successes in its implementation. 

During the activity, the TBTP-RPMO together with the TBTP National Program Management Office (TBTP-NPMO) presented the program components and its major activities to program partners. 

A comprehensive action plan was developed along with strategies for effective and efficient implementation of the program in identified areas with high rates of struggling and non-reader learners.

DSWD MIMAROPA Regional Director, Leonardo C. Reynoso, CESO III through Innovations Division Officer In Charge (OIC), Geneliza Q. Gabilan acknowledged the strong commitment and support of program partners to improving the quality of education and promoting the welfare of every learner.

The DSWD Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program, is a flagship program of the national government through  Executive Order No.76, series of 2024 that will address foundational  literacy gaps  among struggling learners while providing temporary work opportunities for financially  challenged college students.

This program is a redesigned educational assistance that empowers college students to teach poor, non readers and struggling readers in public and elementary schools while simultaneously training the parents by the Youth Development Workers (YDWs) through the delivery of Nanay Tatay learning sessions in exchange for financial aid and work experience.
