The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office MIMAROPA successfully achieved 100% implementation of Project LAWA and BINHI across the region as of June 5, 2026, reinforcing efforts to strengthen water and food security and enhance community resilience against the impacts of climate change.A total of 3,100 partner beneficiaries from 19 Local Government Units (LGUs) benefited from the project, with a total financial assistance amounting to ₱26.66 million. Under the program, each beneficiary received ₱8,600 through the Cash-for-Training (CFT) and Cash-for-Work (CFW) modalities in exchange for their participation in capacity-building activities and community-based projects for 20 days.
Project LAWA and BINHI serves as a climate adaptation initiative that supports vulnerable communities through sustainable interventions aimed at improving water conservation, promoting food production, and mitigating the effects of drought and other climate-related challenges.
“The successful implementation of Project LAWA and BINHI demonstrates the commitment of DSWD and our partner stakeholders to empower communities through climate-responsive and sustainable interventions. By investing in local capacities and resilience-building efforts, we help ensure that vulnerable families are better prepared to face the challenges brought about by climate change,” said DSWD MIMAROPA Regional Director Benchie B. Gonzales.
Beyond providing immediate financial assistance, the project contributed to the establishment and enhancement of community initiatives that support agricultural productivity, water resource management, and disaster preparedness. These efforts are expected to generate long-term benefits that will help communities become more self-reliant and resilient.
The successful implementation of Project LAWA and BINHI highlights the strong collaboration among DSWD, National Government Agencies, Local Government Units, and community partners in advancing sustainable food production and climate resilience, contributing to the realization of a more resilient and prosperous MIMAROPA.
