MAGSAYSAY, Occidental Mindoro– Dubbed with the theme, “We Can End Poverty.Tara Na! Walang Poor Ever”, the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Sustainable Livelihood Program, Local Government of Magsaysay and local associations conducted a one-day dialogue in the town’s Gymnasium.

The dialogue was participated by 27 local associations with 680 members, local officials and Civil Society Organization partners, aims to discuss poverty alleviation policies and programs and promote transparency in its implementation.

Highlight of the activity is the awarding of 1.6 million cheque funded by the government’s BuB for microenterprise projects of sectoral groups such as the Person with Disabilities, Out of School  Youth, Senior Citizens, Community Volunteers, Women’s Group , Solo Parents, Tricycle Drivers, Day Care Workers, Barangay Tanod, Barangay Nutrition Scholars and the Fisherfolk association.

Bottom-up Budgeting (BuB) is an approach to the preparation of budget proposals based on the needs  of the Local Government Units identified in the  local poverty reduction action plans, with the participation of basic sector and other society organizations.

Municipal Mayor Eleonor Fajardo challenged the beneficiaries to use the livelihood assistance prudently. For motivation, she promised to give additional fund for the best performing and best managed association.

Prior to the awarding of cheques, the Municipal Accountant gave orientation to beneficiaries on the process of bookkeeping and records management to facilitate smooth auditing of account.

Moreover, the associations planned to get accreditation from Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and secure official receipts from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

Members of the association prepare the fish net for the construction of fish cage.

CUYO, PALAWAN – The Cuyo Fishermen SLP Association received Php450,000.00 livelihood assistance fund from the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD)  Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).

The association with 45 members in barangay Suba, created under SLP modalities, was one of the recipients of the Enterprise Capital Assistance (ECA) which provided a starting capital for the establishment of fish cages.

This was funded under Post Yolanda Recovery and Rehabilitation Program (YRRP) which aims to give livelihood support to Super Typhoon Yolanda affected Communities.

To date, association has generated Php135, 000.00 from the 1.3 tons of fish caught.

SLP, a community-based capacity-building program that seeks to improve the socio-economic status of its participants, is implemented using the Community-Driven Enterprise Development approach which enables participants to contribute to production and labor markets by looking at available resources and accessible markets.###

CUYO, Palawan – In partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the Local Government Unit, the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MiMaRoPa conducted a hands-on Training on Food Processing Technology for a Nutritious Economy Menu to beneficiaries.

The three-day training was participated by 120 residents coming from the  17 barangays in the municipality.

This skill training is  part of the Department’s disaster rehabilitation effort in restoring livelihoods and helping people start rebuilding for their lives from the destruction of Typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

The DSWD – SLP gave livelihood assistance through starter kits including cooking kits and ingredients amounting to Php. 282,210.00.

BUSUANGA, Palawan- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MiMaRoPa thru the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) conducted Skills Training on Mudcrab Fattening and Culturing Project for about 100 beneficiaries in barangays Sto. Nino, Sagrada, Quezon and Old Busuanga.

DSWD has funded Php754,000.00 under SLP Post Yolanda Recovery and Rehabilitation Program (YRRP), to give livelihood support to Super Typhoon Yolanda affected communities.

Mudcrab pens are also constructed in mangrove areas in the municipality in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources  (BFAR).

DSWD releases cash grants to senior citizens for 3rd, 4th quarter of 2015

MAGDIWANG, Romblon-  About 360  beneficiaries in this municipality received their monthly pension yesterday under the Social Pension (SocPen) Program.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)MiMaRoPa has first released Php1,080,000.00 for the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2015 payout. Another Php180,000.00 fund will be downloaded for the 60 additional senior citizens in Magdiwang.

Each beneficiary receives Php3,000.00 for two quarters.

To date, there are 420 senior citizens enrolled in SocPen in the said municipality and 53,215 beneficiaries in MiMaRoPa region.

SocPen is a government social protection program that gives Php500.00 monthly stipend to 65 yrs old and above indigent senior citizens, who are frail, sickly, or have disabilities; are not receiving pension from Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), or Veterans Pension; and do not have a permanent source of income or regular support from relatives.

The said payout was facilitated by the Local Government Unit thru the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.###

ABORLAN, Palawan- Swerte kung ituring ng mga taga Aborlan ang pagbisita ng mga representante ng bansang Myanmar, Indonesia at East Timor kaninang umaga.

Ang Barangay Sagpangan at Gogognan sa Aborlan kasi ang napili ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) sa buong Pilipinas na may matagumpay nang proyekto sa ilalim ng Kapit Bisig Laban Sa Kahirapan, Comprehensive And Integrated Delivery of Social Services o KALAHI CIDSS.

Nais kasing gawing modelo ng mga nabanggit na bansa ang pagpapatupad ng matagumpay na proyekto sa pangunguna ng komunidad at ordinaryong mamamayan.

Gaya na lang ng 3.345 km. Farm to market road sa Barangay Sagpangan at ang hanging bridge sa Barangay Gogognan.

Kung dati ay kailangan pang lumangoy o maglakad ng malayo ang mga mga estudyante at residente ng Brgy. Gogognan para lang makatawid, ngayon naman ay kailangan na lamang nilang lakarin ang 60 metrong tulay. Malaking kaluwagan para sa kanila at sa kanilang pamumuhay.

93% ng residente ng barangay ay pawang katutubong Tagbanua at sila ang nagtulung-tulong para magawa ang tulay. Aminado naman ang mga volunteers ng proyekto na hindi naging madali ang proseso dahil kailangang maging transparent lahat.

Ito ang kanilang ibinahagi sa mga bisita na pag-aaralan naman nila para ituro rin sa mga mamamayan sa kanilang bansa.

Patunay umano ito na malaki ang papel na ginagampanan ng ordinaryong mamamayan. Dahil kahit sila ay maaaring makapagpatupad ng mga proyektong mapapakinabangan ng lahat.###
