Cagayancillo, Palawan– In adherence to the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTSPR) goal of reducing the under coverage and exclusion of the department’s social protection programs, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office IV-MiMaRoPa conducted a special household validation in Sitio Cawili, Barangay Magsaysay.
Cawili is an island sitio of Barangay Magsaysay, Cagayancillo which can be travelled in an hour by boat from the municipal proper to the islet. The big waves are a common experience during the travel. Nonetheless, the white beach and wild birds locally known as “Ku-ok” are just few amazing features of the place.
Though the island is gifted with beauty and wonders of nature, another face of the island is hidden. “Napakaganda na kayo ay nagpunta dito para makita ninyo ang tunay na sitwasyon namin”, says Sitio Leader Norlita Cabayo. “Kami ay nagagalak at ito ay nagbigay sa amin ng pag-asa dahil marami talaga ang mahihirap dito sa Cawili.”
Special household validation aims to identify possible beneficiaries of social protection program like the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program. Cagayanens, the locals of the place and the LGU officials showed valuable support on the conduct of household assessment.
DSWD has assessed 26 households in Cawili using the department’s Household Assessment Form (HAF) which is deemed critical to identify the socio-economic status of a household. HAF contains verifiable variables such as household composition, housing structure, education of household members, material assets and access to basic services.
Cabayo stressed that the primary problem in the sitio is the lack of permanent jobs. Most residents are dependent only to marine products. Moreover, she calls to have livelihood programs in the area.
The said sitio has a total of 112 households, 58 households of which are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilya.
NHTSPR is a data management that identifies who and where the poor are nationwide that is implemented by the DSWD.###
