Cagayancillo, Palawan- The local government unit (LGU) of Cagayancillo attests that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) adheres to uplift and empower the life of the vulnerable sectors.

Vice Mayor Elect Jotham S. Tapalla says, “The National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTSPR) is an effective mechanism that helps identify who the poor are in Cagayancillo. It prioritizes the poor households to avail social protection programs of the government like the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program”.

Cagayancillo is a 6^th class municipality and is considered one of the poor municipalities in the province of Palawan based on household income. The Vice Mayor said that the program really helps the Cagayanens where it teaches to value the importance of education and health.

Moreover, Pantawid Pamilya is well implemented in the municipality. “The increase of number of enrollees in the elementary and secondary education here only shows the positive effect of the program”, Tapalla added.

NHTSPR is an information management that identifies who and where the poor are nationwide. It has identified   601 poor households in the municipality and 478 or 79.5 percent of poor households are now served by the Pantawid Pamilya.

Pantawid Pamilya is a conditional cash transfer program of the DSWD that aims to eradicate the extreme poverty in the country by investing in health and education particularly 0-14 years old children.

DSWD ensures that the poor are targeted and included in the social protection programs. ###
