The Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC-MIMAROPA) in partnership with Council for the Welfare of Children and the Provincial Government of Marinduque, headed this year’s celebration of the Regional Children’s Month with the theme “Karapatang Pambata: Patuloy na Pahalagahan at Gampanan Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan” held on November 19-20, 2019 in Boac, Marinduque.

 

As part of the agency’s efforts to recognize the hard work and dedication of its partner Local Government Units (LGU) in continuously protecting and advocating children’s rights in their respective localities, the Regional Awarding Ceremony for the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance and the Presidential Award for Child Friendly Municipalities and Cities were conducted.

 

A total of 66 Municipalities and Cities were awarded the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance. The Municipality of Gasan, Marinduque, Municipality of Looc, Occidental Mindoro, and the Municipality of Concepcion, Romblon, got the highest rating of 91 among all the awardees.

 

On the other hand, four LGUs were awarded the Presidential Award for Child Friendly Municipalities and Cities namely Gasan, Marinduque for the 1st to 3rd class municipality category; Looc, Occidental Mindoro for the 4th to 6th class municipality category; Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro for the component city category; and Puerto Princesa City, Palawan for the highly urbanized category.

Moreover, a Children’s Month parade was held participated by Day Care Center students with their parents, students from Don Luis Hidalgo Memorial School, Bangbangalon Elementary students and teachers, Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP), Local and Provincial Government Employees, Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children members, and the regional and provincial DSWD offices.

 

Activities such as Lecture on Basic Children Disaster Risk Reduction Management for the students, and sharing of success story by the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program child beneficiary Katherine Joyce Benaldo from Gasan, Marinduque, were also conducted. The emcee for the Children’s Month was led by two students from Don Luis Hidalgo Memorial School. Panatang Makabayan, a pledge of commitment to protect and promote the rights and welfare of the children was also conducted.
