(L) Social Welfare Officer Ronald Fetalsana facilitates door-to-door payment of emergency cash subsidy to a senior citizen recipient in Looc, Romblon.

MALATE, Manila– The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA lauded three MIMAROPA Local Government Units (LGUs) who are first to complete the distribution of the emergency subsidy under the social amelioration program (SAP) to qualified families.

As of April 22, the Municipality of Sofronio Española in Palawan has disbursed PhP 11,205,000.00 for  2,241 families while Magsaysay, Palawan disbursed PhP 6,525,000.00 for 1,305 families. Also, the Municipality of Looc, Romblon has distributed PhP 20,965,000.00 for 1,493 families. Each family received PhP 5,000.00.

“We would like to extend our appreciation to our partner LGUs through the Local Chief Executives, Local Social Welfare and Development Officers, and other LGU staff for the support and assistance in the implementation of SAP. Despite their limited resources and workforce, they can deliver SAP services on time,” said OIC MIMAROPA Director Purificacion Arriola.

In MIMAROPA region, a total of PhP 2.7 billion was released to 73 local government units for 611,422 low-income families as SAP emergency subsidy.

“We appeal to the public to work as one in the spirit of bayanihan as we face this pandemic brought by COVID-19,” added Arriola.

“Hindi po DSWD ang ating kalaban ngayon, kundi ang corona virus,” she said.

To date, 374,407 families provided SAP emergency cash assistance region-wide.

SAP is a government emergency subsidy for low-income families in the form of outright cash from five thousand to eight thousand pesos affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine. ###
