Sampung Ulirang Nakatatanda Awardees: Josefina Lusoc (kaliwa), 91 taong gulang mula sa Narra, Palawan; Lily Odi, 71 taong gulang mula sa Brooke’s Point, Palawan.
Sa ika-30 Sampung Ulirang Nakatatanda (SUN) Awards ngayong taon, pinarangalan ng Coalition of Services of the Elderly, Inc (COSE) sina Josefina Lusoc mula sa Narra, Palawan at Lily Odi mula sa Brooke’s Point, Palawan bilang pagkilala sa kanilang natatanging kontribusyon sa kani-kanilang komunidad.
Si Josefina o mas kilala sa tawag na Manang Jo, ay isa sa mga pangunahing guro sa Tinagong Dagat. Sa loob ng 41 taon bilang guro, mahigit 30 indibidwal na ang nakapagtapos ng pag-aaral dahil sa kanya. Mula 1997 hanggang sa kasalukuyan, siya ay pangulo ng Senior Citizen’s Association ng Tinagong Dagat. Sa pamamagitan niya, naipatayo ang isa sa pinakamagandang Senior Citizens Center sa munisipalidad ng Narra.
Limang taon ding naging president si Manang Jo ng Coconut Farmers Association. At ngayon ay patuloy at masigasig sa pagsasanay sa mga second line leaders na sasalo at magpapatuloy ng lahat ng kaniyang naumpisahan, “I am a hard-working woman, ang mga bagay na ginawa ko ay hindi para sa akin, pero sa lahat ng kasama ko sa Tinagong Dagat,” ayon sa kanya.
Samantala, isang community leader si Lily Odi na inilaan ang buong buhay sa pakikipagtrabaho, lalo’t higit sa mga katutubong miyembro ng kanilang barangay. Bilang isa sa mga lider ng Indigenous Community, Barangay Nutrition Scholar, Presidente ng Rural Improvement Club, at Presidente ng Senior Citizens Association, naging tulay si nanay Lily upang mairehistro ang mga katutubo sa National Commission for Indigenous People (NCIP), magkaroon ng senior citizens ID ang mga nakatatanda upang makatanggap ng financial assistance sa lokal na pamahalaan at iba pang ahensya, pagsasaayos ng kalusugan, pangkabuhayan at pagpapataas ng kaalaman at kamalayan ng mga miyembro ng komunidad sa kanilang karapatan at benepisyo.
Nagbigay pugay si Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Undersecretary Luzviminda Ilagan sa mga nagwagi sa SUN Awards 2020, “mainit kong binabati ang mga napili bilang Ulirang Nakatatanda ngayong taon, nawa’y kayo ay patuloy na tingalain ng ating mga kabataan, kayo ay inspirasyon sa ating komunidad,” pagbati niya.
