In the heart of a bustling community where life’s challenges often overshadow dreams, one man stood as a beacon of hope and resilience—Ruben, recognized fondly as “Super Tatay” by his children. His story is a testament to the unwavering spirit of a father who defied odds to pave a path of success for his children.

Christine, his daughter, describes Ruben as “Tatay na Nanay pa,” a heartfelt tribute to his dual role as both mother and father. As a farmer, Ruben toiled under the sun, cultivating the land that provided their livelihood. Despite the grueling demands of farming, he never faltered in ensuring that his children received the gift of education, a legacy he cherished above all.

“Hindi nagpapadaig si Papa. Kung madapa ma’y bumabangon siyang may ngiti sa labi at pinagsisigawang, “Napag-aaral ko ang mga anak ko ng mag-isa sa buhay at sa tulong na din ng 4Ps na tulay sa kaginhawahan”. Kaya naman ang erpat ko ang buhay ko,” Christine expressed.

Their lives took a transformative turn in 2012 when they became beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in Sto Nino, Apurawan, Aborlan, Palawan. 4Ps, as Christine recalls, was like a lifeline that illuminated their path, easing the financial burden of education and health expenses. 

With newfound support, Ruben could breathe easier, focusing not only on farming but also on nurturing his children’s well-being.

Ruben’s commitment transcended mere financial support. From dawn to dusk, he juggled farming, household chores, and parental duties, attending school meetings, cooking meals, and ensuring their home was filled with love and stability. His nights turned into days; each moment dedicated to shaping a future where his children could thrive.

“4Ps wasn’t just about financial aid—it was a catalyst for transformation,” Ruben stated.

Through monthly Family Development Sessions (FDS), Ruben absorbed invaluable lessons on parenting, health management, and children’s rights that became his compass, guiding him in nurturing not just educated minds but also resilient spirits within his children.

Christine and her siblings mirrored their father’s perseverance. Motivated by his tireless efforts, they excelled in academics, earning awards and actively participating in school activities. Ruben’s steadfast support instilled in them that hard work and patience are the keys to overcoming adversity.

In 2015, Ruben’s remarkable journey was honored with the title of “4Ps Super Tatay,” a recognition of his extraordinary commitment to his family’s welfare. His story resonated as a tale of triumph over hardship, proving that with perseverance, hard work, and the right support, any obstacle can be surmounted.

Today, Ruben stands tall as a symbol of hope in their community—a father who turned challenges into opportunities, transforming his children’s lives through sheer determination and the support of government programs like 4Ps. His story inspires countless others, reminding them that amidst adversity, there lies the potential for greatness when met with unwavering resolve.

Ruben’s journey as “Super Tatay” is more than a success story—it’s a testament to the transformative power of love, dedication, and the pursuit of a brighter future for the next generation.
