Malate, Manila– The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office IV-MiMaRoPa granted a cheque amounting to P2, 600,000.00  to the Local Government Unit of Culion, Palawan last October 1, 2013.

The municipality of Culion is the first ever Bottom Up Planning and Budgeting (BuB) project that was approved and funded by the region. BuB, an approach to formulating budget proposal of agencies, taking into consideration the development needs of poor municipalities as identified in their respective local poverty reduction plans that shall be formulated with strong participation of basic sectors and civil society organizations.

Nonetheless, the said fund is intended to assist in the livelihood needs of 568 identified disadvantaged women, youth, farmers, and fisherfolks in the entire municipality. The two trainings that will be conducted are Skills and Livelihood Training for Provision of Start-UP Capital and the Basic Business Management and Entrepreneurial Skills Enhancement Training.

“The livelihood projects are expected to be implemented as early as possible,” says Domingo V. Agra, Regional Program Management Coordinator for Sustainable Livelihood Program.

Municipal Social and Welfare Development Officer, Ms. Candelaria M. Rigodon and Chairman on Livelihood, and Women and Family Affairs Sub-Committee, Ms.  Felicidad A. Pastrano, received the said cheque from the Department’s Regional Director, Wilma D. Naviamos . ###
