Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MiMaRoPa gathered more than 5,000 Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries to commemorate National Family Day at the Governor Alfonso Umali Gymnasium, last September 28, 2014.

In her opening remark, Regional Director Wilma D. Naviamos reinforced the value of family and its importance in the development of our nation. She further said that the department will continue to fulfill its duty of providing social protection services for the betterment of every Filipino family.

The De La Peña family, Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya provincial winner, was interviewed on stage and discussed how their lives have changed over time. They encouraged all beneficiaries to become an active participant in the development of their own lives. “Ang kagustuhan natin maka-ahon ang syang makakatulong para sa ikabubuti ng ating mga sarili,” said Ronilo, head of De la Peña family.

Selected beneficiaries and officials from partner agencies were invited on stage to sign their commitment on the “Kaya ko ang Pagbabago” board, as part of the launching of the Kaya Ko campaign. A ceremonial release of balloons followed to symbolize beneficiaries’ conviction to positive change and hope for a better quality of life.

DSWD MiMaRoPa also took time to share before the audience, the honor of having Bacaltos family of Aborlan, Palawan, who ranked 3rd place in the National Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya Competition.

Parlor games and a raffle draws concluded the program.

The event was part of the simultaneous National Family Day Caravan hosted by all DSWD Regional Field Offices.
