MALATE, MANILA- Forty six (46) Kalahi CIDSS engineers were trained on the previously held Construction Management Training for the Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon (MiMaRo) Cluster and Palawan Cluster last February 28 to March 5, 2017 and March 6 to March 11, 2017 respectively.

The said training was administered by the Engineering Unit of Kalahi CIDSS headed by Engr. Alexis Diama, the Regional Community Infrastructure Specialist of Kalahi CIDSS MiMaRoPa. According to Engr. Diama, the training aimed to provide additional knowledge to the Technical Facilitators (TF) on the proper planning and construction of Kalahi CIDSS sub-projects.

The objectives of the training included the following: enhancement of skills learned from the Project Management tools, and the improvement of self-confidence and project performance of the engineers.

Resource Speaker Engr. Benito Tingson shared the code of ethics of the engineers on the beginning of the Construction Management Training.

The six-day training provided a rich and insightful exchange of discussion about construction and project management facilitated by Engr. Benito Cesario Tingson, more commonly known as Engr. Sareth. He is the Environmental and Social Safeguards Specialist of Uryan Green Development Consultants Ltd. and previously the National Infrastructure Engineer of Kalahi CIDSS. His witty commentaries and experience with the program engaged the participants to ask questions on how they can properly manage their respective sub-projects and how they can successfully achieve the set milestones of the program.

Assistant Regional Director for Operations and Kalahi CIDSS Regional Program Manager Floreceli Gunio together with the Regional Program Coordinator Geneliza Gabilan and the new Deputy Regional Program Manager Maria Liza Peraren graced the training and impart words of encouragement and reminders to the engineers.

On the first day, Engr. Sareth discussed the Code of Ethics of Civil Engineering. According to him, civil engineers must stay true to the oath they took and deliver the highest and best work they can produce for their clients. More so, the engineers were administered a test that would determine their working style management. Engr. Sareth provided the  short exam to determine the working style of the engineers to diversify the group members and to prevent a rise of conflict during the workshops. The next days equipped the engineers with  knowledge about construction and project management as Engr. Sareth discussed several areas of knowledge in the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) which includes time and cost management, quality management and earned value analysis. In addition, the engineers conducted different workshops that they can use in the proper facilitation and improvement of the community’s sub-project plans which includes crafting Logical Framework, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), and Critical Path Method.

[Now we are ready and have enough knowledge to face the challenges in the community.]”  said Engr. Rohna Tumpacan, the new Technical Facilitator of Taytay Palawan.

The training ended with the awarding of certificates to the participants and the revision of the Individual Performance Contracts  (IPC) of the Technical Facilitators.
