RIZAL, PALAWAN — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA facilitated the distribution of livelihood grants amounting to P4,995,000.00 for 333 qualified program participants of the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) in the Municipalities of Rizal, Brooke’s Point, Bataraza, and Balabac, Palawan, February 15-17, 2024.

The 3-day payout is made through the initiative of the ACT-CIS Partylist represented by Cong. Erwin Tulfo. Present during the activity are Sheila S. Tapia, OIC Assistant Regional Director for Operations, LGU of Rizal through Mayor Norman S. Ong, Vice Mayor Ma. Gracia Zapanta, Sangguniang Bayan Members, and representatives from the SLP National Program Management Office (NPMO) headed by Marife Leon, OIC Division Chief for Technical Support Division.

 

Rizal, Palawan Mayor Norman Ong expresses his gratitude for choosing the municipality as one of the recipients of the livelihood program. He also encourages his constituents to spend the livelihood grant wisely.

 

Sheila S. Tapia, DSWD MIMAROPA OIC Assistant Regional Director for Operations emphasizes that the agency will continue to support livelihood ventures for the poor and needy through the SLP. Further, she states that the livelihood grants will help the program participants uplift their lives and acknowledges all the partners for their continued support to the Department.

Recipients of the livelihood grants who are composed of solo parents, senior citizens, indigenous people, vendors, and small-scale business owners, went through the required SLP orientation and skills training as part of the program process. Each of them received Php 15,000.00 to establish their chosen livelihood projects or expand their existing micro-enterprises. Some of their livelihood ventures are sari-sari stores, rice and food vending, fishing, salted egg production, retail of assorted goods, and gasoline trading.
